The river Godavari which is very much part of the heritage and tradition of the Hindu belief is there with you throughout the city at all places where there is linkage to the epic Ramayana. There are many places in the banks of the river where small temples of Ram or Hanuman speak of the days gone by and the religious sanctity that is still attached to the river, temple, place or an event. More than half a dozen temples named Kala Ram, Gora Ram etc add a sense of amity to the mood of deep religious fervour that gets inundated in the mind as one come out of the area albeit unwillingly.
Tapovan is yet another place again in the banks of river Godavari that numbs one’s religious feeling. It is here the demon Surpanaka had her nose chopped off by Laxman for intimidating Sita. The river though very odorous has huge and wide rocky surface that are dry for the tourists to walk and have a feel of the event at that specific place. Small temples of Ram built years ago add to the sense of religious fervour. Godavari flows like a waterfall in Gangapur also in Nasik where a temple of Lord Balaji adds religious feel to the aesthetic sense that the river gives by its flowing falls.
Tapovan
Godavari flowing like a waterfall
It is four in a row at Someshwar where temples of Ram, Hanuman, Krishna and Shiva are located in small yet cutely religious ambience. Again in the banks of Godavari one can walk down the steps and have a feel of the river by dipping legs in the river from the steps or by choosing to go by speed boats that are an added attraction to the place. The river Godavari is visible in its broadest width at this place in the city.
Temple of all temples is a place called Mukthidam. It has deities of many of the Hindu temples especially of Lord Shiva. The myth of Hinduism speaks of Mount Kailash as the abode of Lord Shiva which is wonderfully depicted inside this temple. Apart from this if one is inclined to be on a pilgrimage or planning to include temples in their tour programme one can choose any number of temples depending upon the direction of travel.
Nasik has many more things than just religious places. Yet what rules the mind after a visit is the sense of peace that the religious places gave. Other items of interest including culinary matter in the next write up. One word of caution! While the place is so cool (Gulabi Tandi) in December and January it would not be that cool, a month or two before and after the end and beginning of the year respectively. During monsoon it rains virtually pouring cats and dogs. In summer it is roasting hot with around 45* Celsius being so common.

Education
- Tell yourself to remember. When you first learn a person's name, for example, tell yourself, "remember that". This signals your unconscious mind to rank this input higher in importance.
- Know why you want to remember something. For example, to remember a person, think about how that person will be important to you in the future. If you want to remember fact about something, think about how you'll will need them someday.
- Visualize the future. Imagine where you'll see a person next, and anything you notice about them. Use this with the last technique. The additional associations will set the memory more firmly in your brain.
- Retrace your steps. When you forget something, like where you put your keys, you probably retrace your steps. This works, but try it in your mind, as if you were watching yourself from a distance. This can help keep you from blanking out parts of your route, as you did when you first set the keys down.
- Plan your memory. When you set down the keys on the chair, see yourself walking in and setting the keys on the chair. You could also quickly imagine someone asking where you put them and you answering "on the chair." You'll remember where they are if you do this.
Improve Memory With Proven "Tricks"
I went to a birthday party as a child. A party contest involved looking at a table covered in 15 various items for a few minutes. Then the things were taken away, and then we each got a piece of paper and a pencil. We had to write down as many items as we could remember. I recalled seven or eight, but one little boy got all 15 items, and won the prize.

Years later I learned how he did it. His father taught him a simple technique that none of us other kids knew. The trick is to tie the items together in an imaginative story. Let's say you want to remember the following things: milk, soap, forks, honey, and flowers.
You create a story, and see it vividly in your head: At the bathroom sink, you reach for the soap, but the soap dish is filled with milk, so you wash your hands with that, then comb honey into your hair with a fork, pick up a bouquet of flowers and smile at yourself in the mirror. Repeat each item to yourself as you review this "movie" in your imagination, and you'll remember all five things, even the next day.
Create Good Memory Habits
Guess what the biggest problem with memory techniques is? Remembering to use them. Seriously, there are many great methods, but if you don't have the habit of using them, you'll forget to when you need them most. With any technique, make a conscious effort to use it until it becomes automatic. That's how to improve memory.

CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ – THE LEGEND | |
| |
| |
He founded the Hindu kingdom in the Deccan against all odds , fighting against the mighty Mughals. He inspired and united the common man to fight against the tyranny of Mughal ruler Aurangjeb, by inculcating a sense of pride and nationality in them. At the age of 16, he took a pledge to establish a sovereign Hindu state. He clearly outstands all the rulers and generals of India by the exemplary life he lived and is thus respected by the entire cross section of Indians. Shivaji’s military skills could be compared to those of Napolean. He raised a strong army and navy, constructed and repaired forts, used gureilla warfare tactics, developed a strong intelligence network, gave equal treatment to the people from all religions and castes based on merit, and functioned like a seasoned Statesman and General. He appointed ministers with specific functions such as Internal security,Foreign affairs,Finance,Law and Justice,Religious matters,Defence etc. He introduced systems in revenue collection and warned the officials against harassment of subjects. He thought ahead of times and was a true visionary. In his private life, his moral virtues were exceptionally high. His thoughts and deeds were inspired by the teachings of his mother Jijabai, teacher Dadaji Konddev, great saints like Dnyaneshwar & Tukaram and the valiancy and ideals of the Lords Rama and Krishna. The tiny kingdom established by Chhatrapati Shivaji known as “Hindavi Swaraja” (Sovereign Hindu state) grew and spread beyond Attock in Northwest India (now in Pakistan)and beyond Cuttack in East India in course of time, to become the strongest power in India. After the death of Chhatrapati Shivaji & his son Sambhaji, their prime ministers or ‘the Peshwas’ became the defacto rulers. The Peshwas and the Maratha Sardars (Chieftans) like Shindes of Gwalior, Gaekwads of Baroda & Holkars of Indore contributed to the growth of the Maratha Confederacy. The history of India is incomplete without the history of Marathas and Shivaji is the nucleus of Maratha history. Shivaji has been a source of inspiration and pride to the past generations and will continue to inspire generations in future. We salute this legend and humbly dedicate this website to him. PRATI KOLHAPUR AT SHIVAJI PARKPrati Kolhapur Mahotsav was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Ashok Chavan and Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal at Shivajji Park in Bombay (now Mumbai). The festival is a brainchild of Mr.Vinay Kore, Hon’ble Minister for Non-conventional Energy and Horticulture in Maharashtra, who succeeded in bringing Kolhapur to Mumbai with the festival that boasted of carefully selected monuments from Kolhapur, recreated by Nitin Chandrakant Desai of Raja Shivchhatrapati fame. A congregation of over 1 lakh Kolhapurites gathered at Shivaji Park to witness the celebration. The day also marked the establishment of Raja Shri Sahu Kolhapur Vikas Pratisthan that will strive for the development of the historic town. It was a privilege to cover the premiere of Mr. Desai’s Raja Shivchhatrapati (Marathi serial on Star Pravah) held at Cinemax in Bombay. Also, as written earlier, the legendary Hindi films (Bollywood) singer Lata Mangeshkar has ancestral home in Kolhapur. I had a particular picture of Lataji’s house in Kolhapur in some hard disk, will check and post it whenever I find it, most probably in this post itself. Qamaal Mustafa Sikander
